Delay in Cutting the Umbilical Cord Could Save Your Babies Life

Delay of cutting the umbilical cord after birth could just save your babies life.

I give credit to my Micropreemie being here today to the delay of cutting the umbilical cord.  I’m not sure that the doctors thought about that at the time of birth.  But giving her a little more time and a little more nutrients would save her life.  And it did!  When your talking about a very early birth (less that 30 weeks) minutes matter….seconds matter….every little thing matters.

It just makes so much sense.  Don’t you think?  Keep that baby attached to momma as long as possible.

I recently watched a video and read the article about a baby at birth in Australia that wasn’t breathing for 1 minute 40 seconds.  Delivered via C-Section the baby was kept attached to the umbilical cord while he was resuscitated.  Today he is a happy and healthy 15 month old boy!

Here is the link to that story:

My daughter wasn’t attached to the umbilical cord while she was resuscitated but just imagine if she was.  She might have had better lungs, a shorter NICU stay or even had a better respiratory rate.

These might be reaching a little far but if we don’t try and reach through the limits we will never know.

Doctors are making amazing advances in the world of preemies and newborn survival and this one area could just save your baby as well.
